Talk with Father Terry, Pope Leo’s message on Dignity & Faith

Defining Our Mission: A Conversation on Dignity

In winter of 2025, The Dignity Shift sat down with Fr. Terry, our school pastor, to explore a question at the heart of everything we do: What does dignity really mean?

Drawing from Pope Leo's powerful 2025 message on human dignity, Fr. Terry guided us through a deeper understanding of how dignity shapes both individual worth and community responsibility. We discussed how dignity isn't something given or taken away—it's inherent, unchangeable, and deserves protection through action.

"Dignity means seeing the whole person," Fr. Terry shared, "not just their circumstances."

This conversation reaffirmed why The Dignity Shift exists. When families lose food assistance, they don't just lose a benefit—they risk losing the dignity that comes with providing for themselves. Our mission is to restore that. Not through pity, but through recognition that every person—especially those facing food insecurity—deserves to be seen, valued, and supported.

Pope Leo's 2025 message calls us to build systems and communities that honor human dignity. That's what we're doing. One family at a time.
